Gloucestershire CCC’s Potential Move to New Home

Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, also known as the Glosters, is considering the possibility of leaving its historic home at Nevil Road in Bristol, where it has been located since 1889.

In a recent announcement, the club revealed that it has signed a non-binding heads of terms agreement, paving the way for the exploration of a new location for the development of a potential new home.

The identified site, Swanmoor Stoke, situated in South Gloucestershire, is in close proximity to landmarks such as The Wave, Bristol Golf Club, and Wild Place Project. It is strategically located less than a mile from both Junction 17 of the M5 and the proposed new junction off the M49, offering convenient access.

While discussions with the owners of other potential sites will continue, the primary focus in the upcoming months will be on exploring opportunities at Swanmoor Stoke.

Despite this development, Nevil Road will remain the club’s home for the foreseeable future, as the club has already secured international match-hosting rights in Bristol until 2032.

Chairman Peter Matthews emphasized the importance of keeping members, residents, and stakeholders informed about any progress related to the potential move. He noted that while the announcement reflects momentum in the search for a new home, it does not significantly alter the current situation.

The club’s executive team will remain focused on operational matters and the enhancement of the Seat Unique Stadium as a year-round venue for matches and events.

Matthews stressed the preliminary nature of the project, highlighting the need for further detailed work before specific proposals can be presented to the board for consideration.

The club intends to host member and resident-focused events in the near future to address any questions or concerns that may arise.
