Storm Claudia is forecast to bring intense, persistent rainfall to central England on Friday, November 14, with Gloucestershire facing an amber weather warning due to the threat of flooding and widespread disruption.
The Met Office has issued this amber warning as the storm moves in, predicting heavy rain throughout the day that could continue until just before midnight. The region is expected to see rainfall accumulations between 40 and 60 mm, with some areas potentially experiencing up to 80 mm. The highest rainfall totals are anticipated across the East Midlands, higher ground in Wales, and western England.
In addition to heavy rain, strong easterly winds and thunderstorms later on Friday could worsen conditions. The Met Office cautions the public to take the situation seriously as fast-flowing floodwaters may lead to road closures, travel delays, and power outages.

Residents within the amber warning zone are urged to prepare and avoid unnecessary travel. “It is not safe to drive, walk, or swim through floodwaters. If you encounter fast-moving or deep water, call 999 and wait for assistance,” the Met Office advises.
To mitigate potential harm and damage, those affected are encouraged to assemble a flood kit containing important documents such as insurance papers, a torch with spare batteries, first aid supplies, prescription medication, warm waterproof clothing, blankets, and sufficient food and water.
Community members should also check on vulnerable individuals including the elderly, those with health conditions, and people living alone to ensure they have adequate support and supplies.
If there are concerns about health due to the storm or isolation, the Met Office recommends contacting NHS 111 for advice.
Alongside Gloucestershire, other affected regions include the East Midlands, East of England, London and South East England, Wales, and the West Midlands, all bracing for the storm’s impact.
