Gloucester’s LGBTQ+ Bar and Café Shuts After Six Months

Proud Gloucester, an LGBTQ+ bar and café that opened in Kings Square in October 2025, has closed its doors permanently after just six months of operation. The venue was launched as a safe, inclusive space designed to support LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies across Gloucestershire by offering a social hub and hosting community support groups.

Initially met with excitement and enthusiasm from locals eager for a dedicated gathering place, Proud Gloucester quickly became a vibrant part of the city’s social scene. However, on March 1st, 2026, the business announced via Facebook that it had ceased trading due to ongoing challenges in the hospitality industry.

In their heartfelt message, the Proud team expressed deep gratitude to their staff, volunteers, and patrons, acknowledging their dedication and the energy that made the venue special. They highlighted the importance of inclusivity, accessibility, and community at the heart of Proud Gloucester’s mission and reflected with pride on the space they created for people to celebrate, connect, and feel welcomed.

The owners confirmed they have officially returned the keys to the building, emphasizing that although Proud Gloucester is no longer open, the spirit of community it nurtured lives on through other local groups and venues committed to supporting the LGBTQ+ community. The team encouraged continued momentum, celebrating Gloucester’s diverse and vibrant community as they close this chapter “forever and unapologetically proud.”

The closure has sparked an outpouring of support from local residents and artists alike. Notably, goth/rock band Inkubus Sukkubus praised Proud for its welcoming atmosphere and impact, while community member Chris Poulton shared heartfelt appreciation for how the space fostered friendships and connection. Many expressed hope that similar spaces and events will continue to thrive throughout Gloucestershire.
