Gloucester’s Best-Kept Musical Secret Returns This Summer

Gloucester’s hidden gem, the Elmore Festival, is set to return to its enchanting historic home this summer, promising an even bigger and better celebration of world-class chamber music. Running from August 6 to 9, 2025, this four-day event invites music lovers to experience stellar performances within the stunning 13th-century St. John the Baptist Church, nestled on the banks of the scenic River Severn amidst Gloucestershire’s picturesque countryside.

Now in its sixth year, the Elmore Festival has steadily blossomed since its 2020 debut. That inaugural year was marked by resilience, as organizers swiftly moved the event outdoors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since returning indoors in 2021, the festival has firmly established itself as a beloved fixture on the UK chamber music calendar, attracting critically acclaimed young musicians and loyal audiences craving intimate and inspiring musical moments.

Felix Hughes, Artistic Director of Elmore Festival, shares, “We’re delighted to welcome audiences back for our sixth year. Bringing world-class chamber music to such a beautiful and historic venue is truly special. Our community continues to grow each summer, united by the shared love of music. We strive to create an atmosphere where musicians and audiences connect deeply—not just with the music, but with one another. Nurturing young talent through workshops and masterclasses remains a core part of our mission, inspiring the next generation.”

The 2025 line-up features an exciting roster of talented and celebrated performers. Highlights include the eagerly anticipated return of the Scottie Thompson Jazz Trio on August 8, who thrilled audiences with a sold-out jazz evening last year.

Elmore Festival’s commitment to community shines through its engagement with local youth. Each year, around 20 local schoolchildren participate in workshops, masterclasses, and showcases, forging connections between budding musicians and professionals. To encourage young audiences, all under 25s enjoy free admission, welcoming a new generation to experience chamber music in a unique and inspiring setting.

Adding to the festival’s charm is its exceptional hospitality. The Festival Bar, in partnership with Gloucester’s award-winning Pelican Inn, offers a superb selection of local ciders and freshly brewed cask ales from the renowned Wye Valley Brewery just across the river.

Celebrated as one of Gloucestershire’s cultural treasures, the Elmore Festival masterfully blends historic ambiance, artistic excellence, and a strong sense of community. Attendees often describe the experience as “like having Wigmore Hall on my doorstep” and “a truly special event to return to year after year.”
