Gloucester Woman Prefers Aldi Mini Eggs Over Cadbury’s: A Sweet Surprise

As Easter approaches, supermarket shelves are brimming with festive treats, including beloved classics like Cadbury’s Creme Eggs and Mini Eggs. Alongside these well-known brands, supermarket own-label products offer budget-friendly alternatives, sparking curiosity about how they match up in taste and quality.

This year, Aldi’s Choceur Mini Chocolate Eggs, packaged similarly to Cadbury’s iconic yellow Mini Eggs but priced significantly lower, caught the attention of food influencer Becca Stock from Gloucester. Intrigued by the price difference, Becca decided to put them to the test.

Becca, who boasts over half a million followers on her Becca Eats Everything channel, purchased a 256g bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs from Tesco at a discounted price of £5 (regularly £6.20 online), and a same-sized bag of Aldi’s Mini Eggs priced at £3.99.

“I love Mini Eggs—they’re probably my favourite Cadbury product, with Creme Eggs a close second,” said Becca. “But I was shocked to see them priced nearly £5 for a standard-sized bag, even on offer.”

Sampling the Cadbury Mini Eggs first, she noticed the shell was softer than expected, lacking the usual satisfying crunch. In contrast, Aldi’s Mini Eggs featured a thicker, crunchier shell that delivered more texture. While the chocolate inside wasn’t as creamy as Cadbury’s, Becca actually preferred Aldi’s chocolate center for its sweetness and milky flavor.

“I was surprised to find that Aldi’s Mini Eggs were all-around better,” Becca shared. “The shell had that perfect crunch, and the chocolate was just as enjoyable, even if not quite as creamy. These days, I’d pick Aldi’s over Cadbury.”

Becca posted a TikTok video comparing the two on February 10, which has since amassed over 720,000 views. She remarked, “If I saw these without the branding, I might struggle to tell they weren’t Cadbury. Aldi’s shell is fantastic, and while the chocolate isn’t exactly Cadbury’s, it’s really good—sweet, milky, and enjoyable. Aldi, you’re knocking it out of the park. I’m giving these a nine out of ten.”

Tesco confirmed that the £5 price with Clubcard for Cadbury Mini Eggs aligns with other retailers’ pricing for the brand. Meanwhile, Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, expressed pride in their product: “With Easter fast approaching, our customers want chocolate that delivers on both taste and value, and our Choceur Mini Chocolate Eggs does just that. We’re delighted to see so many shoppers praising them on social media.”
