Gloucester Woman Launches Authentic Indian Street Food Restaurant Featuring Chicken Lollipops

Sweta Gupta, a passionate cook from Innsworth near Gloucester, has transformed her love for Indian street food into a thriving restaurant called Kartoos, which opened its doors in Twigworth last summer. After years of success with pop-up stalls and market events, Sweta identified a gap in Gloucester’s dining scene for authentic Indian street cuisine and set out to fill it.

At Kartoos, diners can savor a wide array of traditional dishes, including favorites like chicken tikka masala, amritsari fish fry, lamb masala, paani puri, dahi puri, and the ever-popular chicken lollipop. The restaurant caters to various dietary needs by offering vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Sweta shared her journey: “Relocating from Swindon in 2022, I started my food venture with Indian street food pop-ups at numerous festivals and markets around Gloucester and beyond. I realized there was a real demand for authentic Indian street food here, a cuisine I’ve cherished since childhood, inspired by my uncle who is a chef at a prestigious seven-star restaurant in India.”

With seating for 48 guests, Kartoos offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere where customers can enjoy genuine Indian flavors. Thanks to growing demand, the restaurant also provides convenient delivery services through Gloucester Eats, Uber Eats, and Deliveroo, bringing these delicious dishes straight to customers’ doors.

Highlighting commitment to quality and hygiene, Kartoos proudly earned a five-star rating from the Food Standards Agency, recognized for its excellent food safety standards. Sweta and her team look forward to inviting more food lovers to experience the rich tastes of Indian street food right in Gloucester.
