Gloucester Woman Compares Cadbury Mini Eggs to Aldi’s Cheaper Alternative and Finds Surprising Differences

Easter is just around the corner, and supermarket shelves are once again filled with seasonal chocolate treats. Among the most beloved are Cadbury’s Creme Eggs and Mini Eggs, which return every year to delight fans. However, many shoppers are also drawn to supermarket own-brand chocolates, offering more affordable options.

This year, Aldi’s Choceur Mini Eggs, packaged in eye-catching yellow like Cadbury’s, offer a tempting price difference. While Cadbury Mini Eggs cost around £5 for a 256g bag on offer, Aldi’s similarly sized pack is priced at just £3.99. But how do they compare in taste and quality?

Gloucester-based food influencer Becca Stock, known for her popular Becca Eats Everything channel with over half a million followers, decided to settle the debate. First, she sampled the Cadbury Mini Eggs, expecting their signature crunch. To her surprise, the shell was softer than anticipated, lacking the familiar crisp bite.

Next, Becca tried Aldi’s Mini Eggs and found them to be crunchier with a thicker shell, providing the satisfying texture she expected. While Aldi’s chocolate center wasn’t quite as creamy as Cadbury’s, Becca actually preferred its taste. “The Aldi ones were all-round better,” she said. “The shell was crunchy like you’d expect, and the chocolate was just as good. It wasn’t as creamy as Cadbury’s, but I actually preferred it. I would opt for the Aldi ones instead of the Cadbury ones.”

Becca posted her comparison video on TikTok on February 10, and it quickly gained over 720,000 views. Talking about the Aldi Mini Eggs, she added: “If these were put in a bowl without branding, I’d have a hard time telling they weren’t Cadbury. The shell is great, and while the chocolate inside isn’t quite Cadbury’s, it’s sweet and milky. Aldi, you’re knocking my socks off. I’m giving these a nine out of ten.”

Tesco confirmed that Cadbury Mini Eggs at 256g are priced at £5 with a Clubcard offer, consistent with other retailers. Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, commented: “With Easter fast approaching, our customers want chocolate that delivers on both taste and value, and our Choceur Mini Chocolate Eggs does just that. We’ve loved seeing the buzz on social media with shoppers praising our eggs.”

Cadbury has been contacted for a response.
