Gloucester’s nightlife scene is set for a major transformation with the imminent opening of a cutting-edge multi-room nightclub at 141 Eastgate Street. Formerly the site of venues including Liquid, Liquid Diva, Atik, and more recently Trilogy, which closed in June last year and was auctioned for £325,000, the venue has undergone a remarkable £300,000 refurbishment.
The club, named Play Gloucester, is the latest project from Church Farm Hospitality, a respected group in the UK’s hospitality sector. The revamped venue will launch with a spectacular two-night party on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September, coinciding with the arrival of new students at the University of Gloucestershire and Hartpury University-two of the city’s major academic institutions.
Tom Williams, founder of Church Farm Hospitality, emphasised the intent to create a vibrant hub tailored principally for the student community while remaining inclusive to all. “The students at UoG and Hartpury deserve incredible nights on their doorstep,” Williams said. “We want Play to be their go-to venue to celebrate, relax, and make lasting memories. While students are a key focus, everyone is welcome.”

Williams highlighted the significance of the investment and redesign: “We believe Gloucester deserves world-class nightlife. The entire building has been transformed; the venue is unrecognisable from before. Expect the unexpected. We are thrilled to bring something entirely new to the city.”
Play Gloucester features two distinct spaces: a main room designed for high-energy nights with chart-topping anthems and dynamic dancefloor moments, and a dedicated RnB room that offers a deep, immersive atmosphere for fans of that genre. Additional features include a ball pit, state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, VIP raised booths, and new bar areas-together creating an environment of celebration and fun.
The operator is committed to the long-term success of the venue and a collaborative approach to the city’s nightlife. Williams said, “We want Gloucester to become a destination for nights out rather than somewhere people leave for entertainment. Working with other venues, we aim to build a nightlife circuit that benefits everyone-from venues and the local economy to residents and students alike.”
Following the launch weekend, Play Gloucester will immediately pivot to Freshers’ Week activities, hosting a packed series of events welcoming the new student intake. The venue’s calendar will include student nights, celebrity DJ showcases, themed parties, music bingo, daytime events, and Young Farmers takeover nights.
