After a long spell of heavy rain and blustery winds, Gloucestershire is set to enjoy a welcome warm-up in the coming days—so much so that Gloucester’s temperatures are predicted to surpass those of Corfu, Greece.
The Met Office reports high pressure building over the UK, driving temperatures upward. While Corfu is expected to reach 16°C on Thursday, Gloucester will see highs of 17°C, making it warmer than the popular Mediterranean destination.
This pleasant weather will extend across parts of Gloucestershire, Bath, and Bristol through Thursday. It follows a wet winter season in the region, which recorded rainfall that was 9% above average.

Looking ahead, the Met Office forecasts that high pressure over continental Europe will continue to influence southern and eastern parts of the UK from March 8 to 14, bringing predominantly dry and occasionally bright conditions. Meanwhile, the northwest will remain more prone to rain-bearing systems.
However, the optimism may be short-lived. Longer-range forecasts suggest a possible return to unsettled weather mid-March, with intermittent rain and strong winds affecting much of the UK. This pattern could linger in the south toward the end of March, while northern and northwestern regions become drier.
Northern Ireland, northern England, and Scotland are expected to enjoy sunnier days as meteorological spring begins, while the south may see a mix of sunshine and drizzly showers.
Met Office meteorologist Kathryn Chalk highlights that Tuesday will bring fine and settled weather to most areas, with the best sunshine in northern England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, alongside mixed conditions and occasional drizzles in the south. Temperatures are set to peak on Thursday, reaching up to 18°C in the southeast.
While the arrival of spring warmth is encouraging, residents are advised to keep their winter coats handy as the weather remains changeable.
