Gloucester to Launch Its Own Monopoly Board Game Edition

Gloucester is joining the exclusive list of UK cities with a dedicated Monopoly board game edition, following in the footsteps of Cheltenham and the Cotswolds. This new edition celebrates the city’s unique heritage and community spirit by featuring more than 30 local landmarks and businesses.

Monopoly has long been a beloved family game, with the first London edition marking its 90th anniversary this year. Over time, approximately 60 to 70 regional and local editions have been produced, including a popular Cotswolds version that highlights places like Bourton-on-the-Water, Tewkesbury Abbey, and Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm Shop.

Gloucester secured its spot as the latest city to be honored with a Monopoly board after competing with ten other UK cities. The selection was based on criteria such as natural beauty, civic pride, and strong family values.

Ben Ladd Gibbon, representing Winning Moves UK—the official producer of the new Gloucester edition—shared his enthusiasm: “Gloucester ticked every box for us. We look forward to having a fantastic range of choices when designing this game.”

Among the landmarks expected to feature are Gloucester Cathedral, The Forum, and the Food Dock. Hannah Sweet, marketing administrator at the Food Dock, remarked, “Hosting regular board game nights here, it’s exciting to see the Docks officially recognized as a prominent local landmark on such a classic game.”

Themed sets on the board will showcase Gloucester’s rich diversity, including tourism, heritage, shopping, sport, business, and leisure. The traditional train station spaces will be redesigned around a ‘travel’ theme to better reflect the city’s character.

Set for release in time for Christmas 2026, the Gloucester Monopoly edition promises to be an ideal gift for families and locals alike during the festive season.

The community is encouraged to participate by suggesting landmarks, businesses, and even wording ideas for the Chance and Community Chest cards. Submissions can be emailed to [email protected] by 23:59 on Monday, March 9.
