Gloucester Rugby’s Intent Powers Stunning Win Over Exeter Chiefs

Gloucester Rugby director George Skivington was thrilled with his team’s determination and intent as they bounced back from a heavy defeat last weekend to deny Exeter Chiefs a crucial playoff advantage.

In a thrilling match at Kingsholm, Gloucester secured a hard-fought 34-31 victory against an otherwise strong Exeter side. Although Exeter maintained fourth place due to bonus points, their lead over fifth-placed Bristol has narrowed significantly.

Gloucester’s victory was bolstered by try doubles from Max Llewellyn and Will Trenholm, alongside a try from Tomos Williams. George Barton’s three successful conversions and a penalty sealed a valuable bonus-point win.

Exeter fought back fiercely, with tries from Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, Ross Vintcent, Greg Fisilau, and Henry Slade, along with conversions and a penalty try keeping the score tight throughout the closing stages of the exciting encounter.

Skivington emphasized that Gloucester’s performance was built on intent rather than tactical nuance. “It wasn’t a week about tactics or technique. It was about caring,” he said. “That’s the kind of team we know we are—one we want to see on the pitch every week.”

He also applauded the inspirational leadership of skipper Tomos Williams, who delivered an electric performance. “He’s a world-class player. When you want attacking rugby, Tommy is your man. He lifts everyone and has the ability to create opportunities even when the game is stagnant.”

The victory sends a strong message that Gloucester’s resolve and commitment can challenge any team in the Premiership.
