Gloucester Rugby Unveils Ben Redshaw as Replacement for Santi Carreras at Kingsholm

Gloucester Rugby has secured the services of 20-year-old full-back Ben Redshaw from Newcastle Falcons, as a replacement for Santi Carreras who is set to join Bath. Redshaw’s signing forms part of the comprehensive rebuild of Gloucester’s back line for the upcoming season, which also includes the arrivals of Irish international fly-half Ross Byrne, English centre Will Joseph, and winger Ben Loader. This rebuilding phase comes as the club prepares for the departures of Gareth Anscombe and Chris Harris, among others.

Having progressed through the ranks at Newcastle Falcons, Redshaw made his first-team debut in 2023 and has since amassed 21 appearances for the club. His standout performances earned him recognition as Newcastle’s Academy Player of the Year as well as securing the Try of the Season accolade. Additionally, Redshaw has represented England at various youth levels, playing an integral role in their triumph at the World Rugby Under 20 Championship in South Africa. His potential was further underscored with inclusion in England’s pre-Rugby World Cup 2023 training camp.

Gloucester director of rugby George Skivington expressed his confidence in Redshaw’s abilities, citing the player’s exceptional attributes and potential to seamlessly integrate into the team’s playing style. Redshaw, in turn, conveyed his enthusiasm about joining Gloucester and emphasized the alignment of the club’s game model with his own playing style. He also praised the clear vision outlined by Skivington, positioning Gloucester as the ideal environment for his continued development.
