Gloucester Rugby have secured the signing of Jean Kleyn, the seasoned lock and 2023 Rugby World Cup winner with South Africa, ahead of the 2026/27 season. After a decade at United Rugby Championship side Munster, Kleyn brings a blend of international experience and physical dominance to the Cherry and Whites.
Standing at 6’8’’, the 32-year-old is known for his formidable presence in the engine room, combining relentless work rate with strong leadership qualities. Having represented both Ireland through residency and his native South Africa, Kleyn’s diverse experience at the highest level is set to strengthen Gloucester’s forward pack.
With current lock Cam Jordan expected to depart for Newcastle Red Bulls this summer, Kleyn’s arrival provides an important boost. Gloucester’s Director of Rugby, George Skivington, expressed his enthusiasm: “Jean is a player I’ve admired for a long time. He brings real edge, experience, and a winning mentality, which will be invaluable for our group. His physical presence and professionalism will raise standards across the squad, and we’re excited to welcome him to Kingsholm.”

Kleyn himself is eager to begin his new chapter. “I’m thrilled to be joining Gloucester Rugby next season. It’s a club with incredible history and a passionate fan base, and the vision shared with me really matched what I was looking for in the next chapter of my career. I can’t wait to get started, meet the supporters, and give everything I have for this team.”
He will join fellow new signings Jac Morgan, Dewi Lake, and scrum-half Dan Robson when the squad reconvenes this summer, as Gloucester prepares for an exciting season ahead.
