Gloucester Rugby Secures Future with New Contract for Club Icon Lewis Ludlow

Gloucester Rugby has officially announced that Lewis Ludlow, the club’s longest-serving captain in the professional era, has signed a new contract, keeping the flanker at the Gallagher Premiership side for the foreseeable future.

Although Welsh scrum-half Tomos Williams recently took over the captaincy, Ludlow remains the undeniable heartbeat and soul of the Cherry and Whites. Last weekend marked a significant milestone as Ludlow made his 250th appearance, having debuted against Bath Rugby in 2015. Entering his eleventh season with Gloucester next year, the 31-year-old is now aiming to break the club’s professional appearance record, currently held by Nick Wood at 277 matches.

Ludlow’s leadership credentials are impressive. In 2021, he captained England on his international debut and served as Gloucester’s captain from November 2020 until the end of last season. Beyond his on-field contributions, Ludlow’s dedication shines through his extensive community involvement and support for the club’s Foundation initiatives, including his passionate advocacy for 4Ed.

George Skivington, Gloucester Rugby’s director of rugby, praised Ludlow’s enduring impact: “Luds will go down as a legend of Gloucester Rugby. His professionalism, warrior-like mentality, and passion set a benchmark for every player. His ability to deliver when it counts is why we’ve extended his contract through the 2026/27 season. Although we have other talented players in the back row, Ludlow’s leadership, experience, and quality are irreplaceable.”

Reflecting on his journey, Ludlow said, “The club took a chance on me as a 17-year-old at Hartpury. Two hundred and fifty games later, my desire to give back and make our fans proud remains as strong as ever. I’m incredibly honoured to represent the Club, the City, and our supporters, week in, week out.

“It’s an exciting period off the field with changes to the Academy and other developments. I still feel at the top of my game, so re-signing was an easy decision. There’s truly no place like Holm!”
