Gloucester Rugby Secure Second Tighthead Signing with Eliot Salt

Gloucester Rugby have announced the signing of their second tighthead prop of the summer, bringing in 26-year-old Eliot Salt from Coventry Rugby. Salt will join the Cherry and Whites ahead of the 2026/27 Gallagher Premiership season, stepping up from the Championship where he has made a significant impact.

Over the past three seasons, Salt has been a dependable and highly regarded front-row player for Coventry, accumulating 69 appearances. His consistent performances have earned him a strong reputation in the Championship and made him a standout prop ready for Premiership rugby.

This signing follows Gloucester’s earlier addition of Samoan international tighthead Marco Fepulea’i. The squad has also seen departures, including All Black Nepo Laulala and the retirement of former Russian captain Kirill Gotovtsev, creating opportunities in the front row.

Head Coach George Skivington expressed enthusiasm about Salt’s potential: “Eliot is a player who has earned a really strong reputation in the Championship and has been very consistent over a number of seasons. He’s at a good age for a prop and has plenty of experience already, but we also believe there’s more to come from him. We’re looking forward to bringing him into the group and seeing him develop further in our environment.”

Salt joined the Gloucester squad as they prepare for the upcoming season at Kingsholm. Despite signing a recent contract extension with Coventry, Salt was released to seize the opportunity to compete at the Premiership level.

Coventry head coach Alex Rae praised Salt’s progress: “It’s obviously sad to see Eliot moving on but it’s a fantastic opportunity for him to test himself in the Premiership and we wish him well in the future. It also shows what a fantastic job everyone at the club is doing in developing players and giving them a platform to shine. We’re into double figures now of players in my time here who have gone on to the next level of the game.”

Gloucester’s move for Salt reflects their commitment to building a strong and competitive front row, combining experience and potential to face the challenges ahead.
