Gloucester Rugby’s director of rugby, George Skivington, is eager to unlock the full potential of 20-year-old tighthead prop Afolabi Fasogbon, who has just signed a contract extension with the club. Fasogbon is widely regarded as one of the most promising young talents in the Gallagher Premiership, and despite an Achilles injury earlier this year, he has made a strong impression throughout the 2024/25 season.
The former London Irish player has made 19 appearances across the Premiership and Challenge Cup, showcasing his growing skill set and determination. His standout performances earned him a nomination for the league’s Breakthrough Player of the Season, where he narrowly missed out to Northampton’s Henry Pollock. Looking ahead, Fasogbon is expected to make his senior England debut on the upcoming tour to Argentina and the USA, marking another milestone in his rapidly rising career.
Skivington commented on Fasogbon’s development: “When we signed Afolabi, we recognized his potential but were deliberate in giving him time to develop under Trevor Woodman and our coaching team to prepare him for Premiership rugby. This season, that patience is paying off. For a young prop, he’s been exceptional. There’s still much room for growth, but Afolabi has the right mindset—he knows he’s not the finished article and is eager to learn both on and off the pitch.”

Fasogbon expressed gratitude for the support he’s received since joining Gloucester: “Signing for Gloucester was the best decision for my development after leaving London Irish. This season has been incredibly rewarding. I’m focused on learning from every experience, whether good or bad, and continually improving. I can’t thank George, Trevor, the coaching staff, and senior players enough for their guidance. Their investment in my development motivates me every time I step onto the pitch.”
With his talent, work ethic, and the right mentorship, Afolabi Fasogbon is set to become a key figure in both Gloucester Rugby and English rugby’s future.
