Gloucester Rugby confirmed their place in next season’s Champions Cup with an emphatic 54-21 victory over Newcastle Falcons at Kingsholm Stadium. The bonus-point win ensured they edged out Harlequins to claim the crucial eighth and final spot.
Despite falling behind early in the match, Gloucester quickly turned the tide with a relentless four-try surge that crushed their opponents’ resistance. Ben Redshaw was the star of the night, scoring a hat-trick, while tries from Arthur Clark, Caolan Englefield, Max Llewellyn, James Venter, and Seb Blake polished off an impressive attacking display. Charlie Atkinson also contributed significantly, converting seven of those tries.
Newcastle fought hard, with George McGuigan, Tom Christie, and Simon Benitez Cruz crossing the line for their side. Conversions were added by Brett Connon and Ben Healy.

The match was notable as Matias Alemanno captained Gloucester for his 100th and final appearance. The celebrations were immediate, with Redshaw breaking through the defense to give Gloucester an early lead within the opening minute. Newcastle responded swiftly, combining effectively from a line-out to score and eventually taking the lead by the end of the first quarter.
Though Gloucester struggled with line-out execution early on, they adapted quickly. Clark capitalized on a quickly-taken penalty to level the score, and Englefield followed with a try resulting from a defensive error by Newcastle. Llewellyn’s powerful break set up Redshaw’s bonus-point try, pushing Gloucester ahead decisively.
The first half closed with Llewellyn arm-wrestling his way to score, leaving Gloucester comfortably ahead 35-14 at the break. After halftime, Alemanno’s attempted try was disallowed due to a knock-on, but Gloucester’s momentum was undeterred. Seb Blake’s try extended the lead before McGuigan was temporarily sent off for a deliberate offside, which Gloucester exploited with a driving line-out try from Venter.
Newcastle managed a consolation try through Benitez Cruz after a clever cross-field kick, but it was Redshaw’s final individual try that sealed Gloucester’s dominant victory and ensured their Champions Cup qualification.
