Gloucester Rugby confirmed their place in the next season’s Champions Cup with a commanding 54-21 victory over Newcastle at Kingsholm. This bonus-point win secured their spot ahead of Harlequins, who missed out on the final qualifying position.
Despite an early setback trailing after the first quarter, Gloucester quickly turned the game in their favor with an electrifying four-try burst. Ben Redshaw led the charge with a hat-trick, while Arthur Clark, Caolan Englefield, Max Llewellyn, James Venter, and Seb Blake also crossed the try line. Scrum-half Charlie Atkinson contributed by converting seven of the tries.
Newcastle’s tries came from George McGuigan, Tom Christie, and Simon Benitez Cruz, with Brett Connon and Ben Healy converting three times in total.

The match also marked a milestone for Matias Alemanno, who captained Gloucester for his 100th and final appearance. The home side took an immediate lead with Redshaw weaving through defenders to score within the first minute. Newcastle quickly responded with coordinated plays that put them ahead 14-7 by the end of the opening quarter.
Although Gloucester initially struggled with their line-out, they managed to level the score through Clark’s opportunistic try from a quick penalty. The momentum then swung decisively in Gloucester’s favor, with Englefield and Redshaw extending the lead before Llewellyn powered over to complete four tries in the opening 35 minutes.
The second half saw Gloucester continue to dominate. Although Alemanno’s potential try was ruled out on TMO review due to a loss of possession, Seb Blake soon extended Gloucester’s lead. Newcastle’s McGuigan was sin-binned for a deliberate offside, and Gloucester capitalized with a powerful driving line-out try by Venter.
Newcastle fought to avoid a heavy defeat with Benitez Cruz scoring off a precise cross-field kick by Healy. However, Gloucester ended the match emphatically with Redshaw completing his hat-trick on an individual solo effort.
Gloucester’s comprehensive performance not only secured their Champions Cup qualification but also sent a strong message ahead of next season.
