Gloucester Rugby Injury Update Ahead of Newcastle Red Bulls Clash: Key Players Out

Gloucester Rugby captain Tomos Williams will miss his anticipated final home game at Kingsholm against Newcastle Red Bulls this Saturday, as he has not recovered from a shoulder injury in time. Williams had been sidelined and unable to resume full fitness to feature in Round 18 of the Gallagher Premiership, where Gloucester aim to secure a crucial victory to confirm an eighth-place finish and guarantee a place in next season’s Investec Champions Cup.

Williams, who was appointed club captain last summer after earning the Gallagher Premiership Player of the Season award in 2024/25 following his transfer from Cardiff Rugby, is set to join Saracens ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Head coach George Skivington provided injury updates ahead of the match: “A few players who missed last week’s game are back available, but there won’t be any major changes to the team composition. Our squad has maintained competitive and high-standard training over the past month.”

Loosehead prop Val Rapava-Ruskin was also sidelined last week due to knee issues, with the coaching staff opting for a precautionary rest following some swelling. Skivington explained, “Val could have played if necessary, but after discussing with him and the medical team, we decided to take a more cautious approach to protect his long-term fitness.”

In addition to these absences, centre Will Joseph is confirmed out for the remainder of the season after undergoing wrist surgery following his last match. Skivington noted, “Will’s surgery means he’ll miss the rest of the campaign, but we hope to have him back at full strength for the start of next season.”

With key players sidelined, Gloucester face the challenge of finishing the season strong against Newcastle Red Bulls at Kingsholm.
