Gloucester Rugby Injury Update Ahead of Exeter Chiefs Clash: Englefield, Redshaw, and Eite Return

Gloucester Rugby is bolstering its squad ahead of a pivotal encounter with Exeter Chiefs this Saturday as they push for a spot in the knockout stages of the PREM Rugby Cup.

Scrum-half Caolan Englefield, sidelined since autumn due to a shoulder injury sustained on England A duty, has resumed full training. Alongside him, England A full-back Ben Redshaw and lock Danny Eite, who has been recovering from an ankle injury incurred against Toulon in the Champions Cup, are also returning to fitness.

Scrum coach Trevor Woodman provided an update on the squad’s health: “We have several players coming back from injury. This means we are regaining valuable experience in the team, which is crucial for the upcoming fixtures. Caolan Englefield is back and will be included in the 23. Ben Redshaw, who hasn’t featured much for Gloucester recently, will also return to the squad. We’re starting to see more of our backline options coming back, which is great for us.”

Englefield’s return is especially timely as Tomos Williams is away representing Wales in the Six Nations. Gloucester, currently eighth in the Gallagher Premiership and out of European competition, are focusing on winning the PREM Rugby Cup.

Woodman added: “Having Caolan back is a huge boost to our squad depth. Mikey Austin has done a fantastic job controlling the game with his kicking and field awareness, but healthy competition for the scrum-half position is vital.”

In the second row, Gloucester has relied heavily on 34-year-old Argentina international Matias Alemanno, who has played full 80 minutes in the last four games across competitions. Danny Eite’s return this weekend will add much-needed strength and depth.

“Danny is fit again,” Woodman confirmed. “He played well against Toulon despite an ankle injury early in the game and needed some weeks off to recover properly. His return adds extra power to our forward pack and tight five, which will be crucial.”

Gloucester travels to Sandy Park aiming to extend their lead in Pool A of the PREM Rugby Cup. The Cherry and Whites top the group ahead of second-place Exeter Chiefs, with Bath and Sale Sharks also still vying for a semi-final spot in the competition.
