Gloucester Rugby has announced a multi-year international development partnership with Shimizu Koto Blue Sharks, a prominent club in Japan’s League One. As part of this exciting collaboration, six players and five staff members from the Blue Sharks will join Gloucester’s pre-season programme at Kingsholm for a month-long placement beginning July 13.
During their time at Gloucester, the visiting players and staff will engage closely with the club’s first-team and academy members, gaining valuable hands-on experience in areas such as rugby operations, medical services, and strength and conditioning. This initiative is designed to foster the exchange of knowledge and best practices between the two clubs, enhancing performance and operational expertise.
Shimizu Koto Blue Sharks come off a strong season, reaching the Division 2 final and participating in the promotion play-offs for a spot in Japan Rugby League One’s top division. Notably, the Blue Sharks roster features former Cherry and Whites fly-half Billy Burns and Bristol Bears lock Ed Holmes.
