Gloucester Rugby Faces Strong Competition to Retain Key Leader Seb Atkinson

Seb Atkinson, the England international centre currently out of contract, is attracting significant interest from Leicester Tigers, Harlequins and Saracens, according to several sources.

Since joining Gloucester from Worcester Warriors following their 2022 collapse, Atkinson has become a pivotal member of the Cherry and Whites. He has taken on the role of vice-captain over the past two seasons and earned his place in the England senior squad, making seven appearances.

Atkinson’s recent performance in Gloucester’s 45-24 victory over Exeter Chiefs in Round One of the Gallagher Premiership was outstanding. He scored a try thanks to a skilful chip kick from Caolan Englefield and later assisted Junior Denny with a precise kick behind the defence.

Regarding Atkinson’s future beyond the 2027 Rugby World Cup, Gloucester head coach George Skivington acknowledged the player’s high demand. “Players like Seb have always got options. He’s invested a lot here and is performing well for Gloucester and England," Skivington said. “We believe we have a strong environment, and while we hope players we’ve developed stay, professional sport can be unpredictable.”

Skivington also indicated that Gloucester are prepared to continue strengthening their squad for next season. Building on recent signings such as Welsh internationals Dewi Lake and Jac Morgan, the club aims to assemble a team capable of competing at the highest level.

Speaking after the match at Sandy Park, Skivington reflected on the club’s progress: “Our setup is quite different this year. We have more backroom staff than ever and believe this is the best squad Gloucester has had. The club is fully committed to achieving success.”
