Gloucester Rugby extended their strong start to the Gallagher Premiership season by overwhelming Harlequins 48-0 at Kingsholm on Saturday evening. This impressive win followed their season-opening victory against Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park, although this occasion saw a much weaker Harlequins side struggling throughout.
Harlequins were outclassed in every department and failed to register any points. While the team missed key players, including England internationals Marcus Smith and Alex Dombrandt, the heavy defeat will take some time to recover from.
Gloucester ran in tries through Ben Loader, Jac Morgan, Will Trenholm, Charlie Atkinson, Seb Atkinson, Will Joseph, Caolan Englefield, and George Barton, who also kicked four conversions. Despite losing South African lock Jean Kleyn early on for a head injury assessment, Gloucester dominated the opening exchanges.

Loader opened the scoring by gathering a crossfield kick from Charlie Atkinson. Kleyn returned to the field to help maintain pressure as Harlequins conceded six penalties in the first quarter. Will Evans was yellow-carded for persistent infringements, allowing Morgan to capitalise on a driving line-out for a try.
Although Kleyn left the field again for assessment and a deliberate knock-on from James Dun went unpunished, Gloucester’s control remained unchallenged. Trenholm and Charlie Atkinson added tries before half-time, with Barton converting to secure a 24-0 lead.
Gloucester quickly sealed the win after the break, with Seb Atkinson and Englefield crossing the line. Englefield’s try was set up by Joseph, who produced dazzling play with a one-handed offload. Joseph and Barton also scored before several key players, including captain Dewi Lake and the Atkinson brothers, were substituted.
Former Northampton captain George Furbank made a difficult competitive debut for Harlequins and was replaced after 63 minutes. The final quarter saw no further scoring as Gloucester’s replacements disrupted their earlier momentum, helping Harlequins avoid conceding more than 50 points.
