Gloucester Rugby Confirms 12 Departures for 2025/26 Season, Ross Byrne Stays

Gloucester Rugby has officially confirmed that 12 senior players will leave the club at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, with Argentine international lock Matias Alemanno among those set to move on. Alemanno could mark a milestone with his potential 100th appearance for Gloucester this weekend against Newcastle Red Bulls.

Despite persistent speculation linking Irish fly-half Ross Byrne to a move to Perpignan, Byrne—who has two years remaining on his contract—will remain with Gloucester. England international hooker Jack Singleton, sidelined all season due to a pre-season heart condition, is also confirmed to stay.

Alongside Alemanno, three players who have each served Gloucester for over five seasons will depart. Former Russia captain Kirill Gotovtsev, a fan favorite who made 87 appearances since 2021, will retire from professional rugby. Cam Jordan is set to join Newcastle Red Bulls, concluding his Gloucester career with 77 appearances. Academy graduate Jake Morris will also exit after 54 first-team games.

The club will also part ways with first-team players Josh Basham, Jono Benz-Salomon, Hugh Bokenham, Will Butler, Nepo Laulala, Archie McArthur, Rob Russell, and Tomos Williams.

Head coach George Skivington reflected on the changes: “With new players joining the first team and a fresh academy intake next season, some departures are inevitable. We thank every player leaving for their dedication and efforts at Kingsholm. Whether their time here was brief or extended, they’ve all contributed to the club’s journey, and we wish them the best for the future.”

In addition, eight academy players—George Dufty, Ollie Minnis, Dan O’Reilly, Rhys Price, Dan Owen, Pete Paramore, Rio Ebanks, and Freddie Stevens—will also be leaving Gloucester.
