Gloucestershire County Council has announced a series of temporary road closures, traffic restrictions, and a long-term footpath closure affecting Gloucester, Innsworth, Winchcombe, Newent, Quedgeley, Upton St Leonards, Boddington, and Uckington. These works encompass carriageway resurfacing, pre-treatment processes, utility repairs including those by Severn Trent Water, and safety improvements related to overhead cable maintenance.
Pedestrian access to properties adjacent to the affected roads will remain open throughout the works, and emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times. Drivers should follow clearly marked diversion routes onsite and allow extra travel time for local journeys. Parking restrictions, including no waiting and no loading orders, will be enforced during resurfacing and surface treatment works; motorists are advised to check local signage for precise enforcement periods.
The programme of works will be carried out flexibly, with roads being closed or restricted either simultaneously or sequentially, as required. Official signage will indicate when specific closures or restrictions are active. Notable single-day closures include Greenways on 9 October 2026 and Horsefair Lane in Newent (C55) on 12 October 2026. Additionally, Brook Street will be closed from 8am on 10 October until 4pm on 11 October 2026. A rolling programme of activities will commence from 14 October 2026, with some projects anticipated to finish by 30 November 2026, while others may continue until 31 March 2027.

Most closures and restrictions will operate during daytime hours, typically between 9am and 3pm or 9:30am and 3:30pm, though some days within this window may remain unrestricted, depending on the location.
These works may cause delays near schools and along main routes, potentially impacting school runs and bus services. Residents and commuters who may be affected are advised to consider alternative routes, adjust their travel times, and follow operator updates.
Cyclists should be vigilant and adhere to diversion signs, especially where temporary traffic management is in place near work areas. Pedestrian access will continue to be available despite the closures.
Gloucestershire County Council, as the traffic authority, will manage the works. For the latest updates, contact Gloucestershire Highways on 08000 514 514 and observe all on-street signage before travelling.
Residents and motorists in the affected areas are urged to stay informed by checking local notices, following the designated diversion routes, and permitting additional travel time as these essential maintenance activities progress.
