Police in Gloucester are calling on residents to remain alert after a recent spike in burglaries across the city. Over the past three weeks, twelve break-ins have been reported in the Matson and Abbeydale areas, prompting authorities to investigate potential links between the incidents.
The reported burglaries occurred on Stonechat, Grebe Close, Drayton Way, Kinmoor, Winnycroft Lane, Redwell Road, Haycroft Drive, and St Peter’s Road. Officers are appealing to the community for any information that might assist the investigation and encourage those with relevant CCTV, ring doorbell, or dashcam footage who have not yet contacted the police to come forward.

In response to the rise in burglaries, Gloucestershire Constabulary has launched ‘Operation Switch,’ a winter safety initiative designed to help homeowners protect their properties during the longer, darker nights. The operation spans the entire county and promotes the installation of a combination of security measures that are proven to reduce the risk of burglary by up to 49 times compared to having no security devices.
The campaign highlights the ‘WIDE’ security checklist: Window locks, Indoor lights on timer switches, Double or deadbolts fitted to doors, and Exterior lights equipped with sensors.
Anyone seeking to protect their home further or wanting more information on Operation Switch is encouraged to visit the Gloucestershire Police website. Additionally, crimes can be reported anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
