Gloucester Next and Costa customer hit with ‘disgusting’ £100 parking charge

The parking rules at The Peel Centre in St Ann Way, Gloucester, have been causing frustration for many motorists since they were changed in summer 2023. The latest victim, Nathan Hopkins, a regular customer at the Peel Centre, was issued a parking charge notice for allegedly staying 17 minutes over the three-hour limit in January.

Hopkins, who frequented the Next store at the Peel Centre, expressed his disbelief at receiving the charge as he claimed to always abide by the time limit, using his phone alarm to track his stay. Despite his appeal highlighting factors such as unreadable registration numbers and camera positioning, his appeal was rejected, and he reluctantly paid the £100 fee.

Councillor Pam Tracy condemned the practice, emphasizing the impact on legitimate shoppers and the need to retain them in the city. Despite efforts to address this issue, fines continue to affect unsuspecting individuals, prompting Tracy to express her sympathy for those impacted.
