Gloucester MP Praises Major Investment Boosting GP Appointments and Upgrading NHS Facilities

Gloucester MP Alex McIntyre has welcomed a significant government investment aimed at revitalising health services and expanding GP appointments across the city. The £102 million fund targets 1,000 GP surgeries nationwide, including Matson Lane Surgery, to enhance infrastructure, increase capacity, and provide more patient appointments.

In addition to GP surgery upgrades, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital is set to receive more than £9.7 million dedicated to vital improvements such as water systems, fire safety measures, and refurbishment of both internal and external building elements. These enhancements are designed to ensure the hospital remains safe and functional for years to come.

Alex McIntyre commented, “It’s encouraging to see this focused investment bringing much-needed support to Gloucester’s health services. Increasing GP availability and maintaining safe, modern facilities is essential to strengthening our NHS. Following my recent visit to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, I was alarmed by the backlog of maintenance needs caused by years of underinvestment. This funding marks an important first step in addressing those challenges.”

The MP also highlighted the parallel investment in education infrastructure, welcoming the condition improvement fund that will help schools like St Peter’s Catholic High School and Sixth Form Centre maintain safe and effective learning environments.

“This comprehensive approach not only helps lift the NHS off its knees with more GP appointments, but also secures the foundations for future healthcare and education in our community,” added McIntyre.
