Gloucester Love Island contestant Ben Holbrough has more reality TV blood in his family than fans might realize. At just 23 years old, Ben shares a striking resemblance with his uncle, Warren Phillips, who also made waves in ITV’s reality lineup.
Warren, 36, gained recognition on ITV’s Survival of the Fittest in 2018, hosted by Laura Whitmore. The show featured attractive singles competing in the South African savannah, testing their mental and physical limits in a battle of the sexes. Romance was encouraged but came with the risk of jeopardizing team success.
Warren was a key member of the Boys’ Team in the series’ first season, finishing in fifth place as part of the runner-up team alongside teammates James, David, and Tristan.

While Ben’s family ties are drawing interest, he has sparked controversy on this season of Love Island. Earlier in the series, he made remarks about fellow Islander Shakira, suggesting she needed to be “humbled” after Toni, a bombshell contestant, had an interaction with her.
This comment did not sit well with viewers or Love Island hosts. On the official podcast, The Morning After, host and former contestant Indiyah Polak expressed concern, highlighting the negative implications of wishing someone to be “humbled.” She added that Ben seemed unsettled by Shakira’s confidence.
Co-host Amy Hart also defended Shakira, emphasizing that the only action Shakira took was investing sincerely in the relationship.
Despite the backlash, Ben ultimately reconciled with Shakira and they recoupled on the show, continuing their Love Island journey together.
