Gloucester City Council is set to launch a dedicated team this month to tackle anti-social behaviour in the city centre. The City Centre Engagement Team, a pioneering two-year pilot project, focuses on addressing street-based issues such as drinking and intimidation that can make residents and visitors feel unsafe.
Funded with £200,000, the team will consist of two engagement officers tasked with providing a visible presence and working directly with individuals involved in nuisance behaviour. Their role extends beyond enforcement, offering support services like assistance with housing and addiction, aiming to break the cycle of harmful behaviours through connecting vulnerable people with the right agencies.
This new initiative operates alongside existing community safety efforts, including Community Protection Officers, CitySafe, and the Solace partnership with Gloucestershire Constabulary. Together, these collaborations strive to enhance public safety and nurture strong relationships with local businesses and the community.

Cllr Rebecca Trimnell, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement, emphasized the council’s commitment: “We’ve listened to our residents’ concerns about anti-social behaviour and the welfare of vulnerable individuals. By engaging directly with those affected, we can provide much-needed support while improving safety for everyone in the city centre.”
