Gloucester History Festival Spring Weekend Lineup Revealed

This weekend’s Gloucester History Festival’s Spring Weekend at Blackfriars Priory promises to reveal new discoveries, theories, and findings about Gloucestershire’s rich and royal past. The event features discussions on the fake death of Edward II, revelations about historic buildings, and the discovery of a previously unknown Viking fort in the county.

Bestselling historian Ian Mortimer will challenge the official account of Edward II’s death, shedding light on the implications for the monarch’s famous tomb in the city. Additionally, the event will showcase surprising findings about the former home of Winfield’s Seeds and Bookends Bookshop at 26 Westgate Street and offer a rare glimpse of the building with exclusive video footage.

Interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Festival President Professor Janina Ramirez are set to share insights into the art, architecture, and gardens of the 18th century Rococo and Baroque era. Other sessions will delve into current events, the history of 20th century Europe, and the recent discovery of a Viking fort on the banks of the River Severn.
