Gloucester Food Reviewer Tests Tesco Vanilla Ice Creams to Find the Best Value and Taste

With summer fast approaching and the promise of sunny days, stocking up on ice cream seems like a must. But with countless options lining supermarket shelves, choosing the perfect tub can be a challenge. To help cut through the noise, Gloucester food reviewer Becca, known online as ‘BeccaEatsEverything,’ conducted a taste test of three vanilla ice creams, each at a different price point, to see if paying more truly means better quality.

Starting with the budget-friendly choice, Becca picked up a 2-litre tub of Ms Molly’s Soft Scoop Vanilla Ice Cream for just £1.35 from Tesco. Scooping some into a bowl, she immediately appreciated its creamy texture and sweet vanilla flavor. “That is creamy, it’s sweet, got vanilla flavour to it,” she said. While noting it melted quicker than typical ice cream, she found the taste and texture impressive for the price, awarding it an 8 out of 10.

Next, she sampled a mid-range option: Mackie’s of Scotland Traditional Real Dairy Ice Cream costing £3.60 per litre at Tesco. Visually similar to the budget choice, it offered a different experience. “Oh, that is very creamy,” Becca noted but admitted she had mistakenly chosen the traditional variety instead of vanilla. She praised the strong cold milk flavor, describing it as beautiful but noted the texture lacked the rich creaminess expected from premium ice cream. Still, she rated it slightly higher at 8.5 out of 10, calling it decent value for money.

Finally, Becca tried the priciest tub: Marshfield Farm Real Dairy Ice Cream, which retailed at £8.10 per litre. This premium product isn’t typically found in supermarkets but is popular at tourist spots and coastal locations. The ice cream stood out with visible vanilla flecks, and Becca described it as “good ice cream” with a delicate vanilla flavor. Though she wished the vanilla punch was stronger, the luxurious texture and the way it melted in her mouth impressed her. “I have to say, this is the best ice cream out of the three, there is no denying it whatsoever,” she concluded, awarding it a 9 out of 10. Her verdict confirms that spending more can deliver a superior ice cream experience—but the difference might not always justify the price hike.
