A man responsible for dumping waste across Gloucester has been sentenced following a series of fly-tipping offences. John Sheridan, aged 42, from Park Royal in London, was convicted of five separate fly-tipping charges after evidence was gathered from dashcam footage, videos submitted by the public, and CCTV recordings.
The prosecutions were successfully handled by One Legal on behalf of Gloucester City Council. Sheridan was handed a 30-week jail sentence, which has been suspended for two years. Additionally, he must attend up to 20 rehabilitation activity days under probation supervision and pay a fine of £1,187.
Moreover, the van used in the offences has been seized and subsequently crushed. Gloucester City Council emphasised that fly-tipping is not a victimless crime: it causes environmental damage, imposes costs on taxpayers, and negatively impacts local communities. The council affirmed its commitment to continuing enforcement action against individuals responsible for such offences.
