Gloucester Councillor Raises Alarm Over City Car Parks Used by Mobile Mechanic and Burnt-Out Vehicle

Gloucester City Council is facing mounting concerns as councillor Sajid Patel highlights troubling issues in city centre car parks. At a recent council meeting held on May 19 at North Warehouse, Patel voiced frustration over a mobile mechanic operating out of the Sinope Street car park and the presence of a burnt-out van lingering behind The Treddy for over six weeks.

Patel emphasized his tireless efforts to engage council authorities, revealing he has lost count of the numerous emails sent regarding these ongoing problems. “The car park in Sinope Street is being used to fix cars,” he stated, further noting unfinished maintenance work that began a year ago remains incomplete despite a ten-month timeline.

Beyond the mobile mechanic, Patel raised concerns about regular street drinking in the city council-owned car parks, exacerbating community complaints. Residents have expressed frustration at repeatedly having to voice the same grievances with no clear resolution.

“I’m urging the council to move beyond buzzwords and pledges,” Patel declared. “If we truly want to improve residents’ lives, we need to see tangible results, not just promises.”

In response, council leader Jeremy Hilton acknowledged the issues but expressed difficulty in addressing matters that fall outside the current corporate plan’s focus. Hilton urged Patel to formally document complaints to ensure proper follow-up instead of raising them spontaneously during meetings.

While debating procedural concerns, both leaders agree on the need to resolve the problems affecting Gloucester’s car parks. As local residents await action, the call for accountability and improved management grows louder.
