Gloucester Councillor Denies Abuse Allegations in Bar Incident

Alastair Chambers, a Gloucester councillor, is set to stand trial after denying accusations of verbally abusing a local businessman during an incident outside a bar. The 45-year-old councillor, representing Matson and Robinswood, appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of harassment.

The incident in question occurred on October 5, 2025, outside Butlers Venue Bar in Gloucester, involving Chambers and bar owner Justin Hudson. Charges claim that Chambers used threatening and abusive language intended to cause harassment, alarm, or distress to Mr. Hudson.

This charge, brought under the Public Order Act, is considered a summary offence and will be handled in magistrates’ court. If found guilty, Chambers could face up to six months’ imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine.
