Gloucester City’s Manager Mike Cook Reflects on Victory over Spennymoor Town

Gloucester City’s manager, Mike Cook, expressed his satisfaction following the team’s 4-2 triumph over Spennymoor Town in the National League North.

Two first-half goals from Brandon Smalley and a Joe Hanks penalty, which came during additional time, set The Tigers up with a 2-0 lead at the halfway mark.

Although Spennymoor Town managed to level the score twice after Tyrone Duffus scored his first goal of the season at 57 minutes, and with goals from Mark Anderson at 70 minutes and Ben Hockenhull 10 minutes later, Gloucester City secured the victory with a goal from Liam Cross in added time.

Cook commended his team’s performance, viewing it as the team’s best display yet, praising their ball retention and bravery on the ball.

The team has faced various injury challenges during the season, and Cook provided an update on the current situation, stating that they are still managing a couple of injuries but are close to having 90% of the squad available.

He attributed the team’s recent success to the coaching staff and highlighted the contributions of specific players, including Liam Cross, Beresford, and Harry Leeson.

Additionally, Cook addressed the substitution of Captain Joe Hanks, explaining that Hanks had been feeling unwell and sustained a head injury a couple of weeks prior, prompting the need for a medical assessment.

Gloucester City lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, while Spennymoor Town opted for a 4-1-4-1 formation.

The match was officiated by referee Liam Corbett, and the attendance was recorded at 601.
