Gloucester City Secure Home Play-Off Semi-Final with 5-0 First-Half Blitz at Dorchester Town

Gloucester City delivered a stunning performance at Dorchester Town on Saturday, storming to a 5-0 victory before half-time to seal third place and ensure a home play-off semi-final.

Following a disappointing loss to Taunton Town on Easter Monday, City were determined to bounce back and secure the vital win needed to remain in strong position heading into the play-offs.

The visitors wasted no time, opening the scoring in the second minute. Liam Cross exploited a defensive lapse to finish clinically, setting the tone for the afternoon. Just 11 minutes later, Sion Spence doubled the lead with a composed one-on-one finish after being played in behind the defense once again.

Dorchester’s afternoon worsened as Gloucester continued to press. In the 18th minute, Jamal Mohammed wheeled inside the box before delivering a precise chip to Keiran Thomas, who headed home the third goal. Gloucester showed no signs of slowing down, and 30 minutes in, a slick move between Elis Watts and Spence resulted in a cross met by Kane Simpson to make it 4-0.

Simpson struck again right before half-time, nodding in his second to give Gloucester an emphatic 5-0 lead heading into the break.

The second half saw the intensity drop, with the result never in doubt. Gloucester coasted to a comprehensive victory, earning three crucial points while Dorchester remain perilously close to relegation.

Gloucester City manager Daf Williams expressed his delight with the response from his players. “After Monday’s disappointment, the team showed real bouncebackability,” he said. “We’ve now secured third place and a home semi-final, hitting milestones we set out for this season—including matching the club’s best wins and goals record in over 25 years.”

Williams emphasized the need to maintain momentum with two games left in the regular season. “We’re focused on winning at Yate and then at Walton at home to head into the play-offs in the best possible shape.”

Dorchester Town’s challenge grows ever tougher as relegation looms, while Gloucester City can look ahead to the play-offs with confidence after this commanding victory.
