Gloucester City manager Daf Williams is rallying the club’s supporters to bring a vibrant, noisy atmosphere to Monday’s pivotal Southern League Premier South play-off match against Taunton Town at the KMM Energy Stadium.
City secured their spot in the play-offs with a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Hanwell Town on Good Friday, thanks to second-half strikes from Elis Watts and Kieran Phillips. With top spot out of reach behind league leaders Walton & Hersham, Gloucester City now aim to finish second to gain home advantage through the play-offs.
Williams, however, expressed disappointment at the quieter atmosphere during their recent 3-0 home win against Plymouth Parkway. “I thought the place was quite quiet and we’re capable of so much more as a football club and fanbase,” he said.

He was quick to praise the fans who traveled to Hanwell, noting their energetic support made a real difference. “The supporters turned up in their numbers and made loads of noise, as they do at every away game,” Williams remarked. “Now we need to replicate that at home on Monday — a big turnout, making lots of noise to lift the lads.”
Williams emphasized the importance of unity and a collective effort beyond the pitch. “If we want to be successful, everyone has to pull in the same direction. The players deserve a vocal crowd to back them, and I would love to see everyone uniting to create an incredible atmosphere against Taunton.”
Despite some injury setbacks, including the absence of striker Kane Simpson and a last-minute withdrawal of Jamal Mohammed due to a warm-up injury, City showed resilience in their recent outing against a tough Hanwell side. After conceding early, the team fought back with determination, reflecting a strong character that Williams praised wholeheartedly.
Williams underlined that the team’s slow start wasn’t due to tactical changes but rather the challenging circumstances they have faced throughout the season. “We’ve had to overcome so much adversity, but the players took it in their stride and didn’t drop their standards,” he said.
Standout performances from players like Elis Watts, who scored at 65 minutes, and Kieran Phillips, who came off the bench to net the winning goal, illustrate the squad’s depth and commitment. Williams expressed his delight at Phillips’ return to form after recent injury woes.
He also singled out defenders Keiran Thomas and Michael O’Regan for their outstanding displays, along with the entire team’s midfield and forward efforts, noting the collective spirit that has powered Gloucester City this season.
With play-off football now underway, Williams’ message is clear: the team needs its fans more than ever to create an electric atmosphere, drive the players on, and push Gloucester City to success.
