Gloucester City Manager Daf Williams “Delighted” as Tigers Edge Past Bracknell Town

Gloucester City manager Daf Williams expressed his delight following his team’s narrow 1-0 victory against Bracknell Town on Saturday afternoon, a win that extends their unbeaten streak and keeps their promotion hopes alive.

Coming off an unbeaten February, City aimed to stretch their streak to seven matches against a Bracknell side that looked very different from the one they previously faced. The first half was a cautious and tense affair, with neither team generating significant chances or clear-cut opportunities.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 65th minute when City captain Keiran Thomas soared above the defense to meet a corner at the back post, heading the Tigers into the lead. The goal sparked late pressure from Bracknell, who thought they had equalized in the 85th minute, but goalkeeper Jared Thompson made a stunning save to preserve Gloucester’s lead and secure a clean sheet.

“It’s a good win,” Williams said. “Bracknell has picked up some impressive results against strong teams recently, and even when they didn’t win, they played well. We probably made the game harder than necessary, but at this stage of the season, results matter most.”

Williams also dedicated the victory and clean sheet to Reg, a devoted supporter who was with the team in the changing room before and after the game. The victory marked a special moment for captain Keiran Thomas as well, who was honored before kickoff for making his 100th appearance just last week during the game against Poole Town. After returning from a lengthy injury, Thomas has been a strong presence on the pitch, and Williams praised his contributions.

“He’s been brilliant since returning from injury, and scoring today was a perfect way to celebrate his milestone with his family,” Williams said.

This match also marked Gloucester City’s second consecutive clean sheet, a defensive improvement Williams attributes to recent changes in personnel, tactics, and team mindset since the Havant game.

“Our defensive cohesion has significantly improved thanks to those changes. We’ve become more focused and organized as we approach the final stretch of the season, and that makes me really pleased,” he added.
