Gloucester City secured a dramatic late draw with league leaders Plymouth Parkway, salvaging a 1-1 result in an entertaining match played under the lights at the KMM Energy Stadium.
The Tigers appeared set to suffer defeat after Andrew Neal’s early half-volley gave Plymouth the lead, striking against the run of play. However, a determined Gloucester side maintained pressure throughout the game and were rewarded with a stoppage-time goal by Ethan Dunbar, who capitalised on a well-placed effort inside the penalty area to secure a valuable point for his team.
Manager Daf Williams expressed mixed feelings following the game, noting the frustration of missing out on all three points despite his side’s strong performance. “I’m a little bit frustrated that we haven’t won the game even though we scored in the last minute,” he said. “People might think we were fortunate to get a point, but watching the game shows the number of chances we created. We performed well against the top team and have to be satisfied with the point, even though we believe we could have won.”

The match included some notable moments, with Ashley Hemmings testing Parkway goalkeeper Aaron Dearing early on with a skilful left-footed shot. Dearing was forced into several key saves, including a near goal of the season contender from Hemmings late in the first half, when he stopped a powerful 30-yard effort.
Gloucester’s defensive resilience was also on display, with Michael O’Regan making a courageous header to block what looked certain to be a goal. Despite the setback of conceding early, City maintained their composure and kept up the pressure, coming close to finding an equaliser through Kian Hill, whose curling shot narrowly missed the post.
Parkway had a chance to seal victory late on when substitute Hayden Turner faced a one-on-one opportunity against City goalkeeper Samuel Kane but saw his tame attempt comfortably saved.
Williams praised Dunbar for his persistence and commitment, saying, “We perhaps didn’t utilise Ethan as much as we could have, but he showed great character to pop up at the right moment. He’s a great lad who loves this football club, and that fighting spirit is exactly what we need.”
The final whistle saw both teams share the spoils, with 550 spectators witnessing a match that epitomised the competitive spirit of Gloucester City football. The Tigers will look to build on the positives shown, particularly their resilience and ability to create chances against a strong opponent.
