Gloucester City delivered a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon, overwhelming Dorchester Town 5-0 to secure third place in the league and guarantee a home play-off semi-final.
Following a disappointing defeat against Taunton Town on Easter Monday, Gloucester City needed a strong response to maintain their title challenge. They faced a Dorchester side fighting to avoid relegation, but the visitors quickly stamped their authority on the match.
Just two minutes into the game, Liam Cross broke the deadlock, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to slot home confidently. The Tigers doubled their advantage in the 13th minute when Sion Spence skillfully went one-on-one with the keeper and found the net.

Dorchester’s struggles intensified in the 18th minute as Jamal Mohammed expertly controlled the ball inside the penalty area before delivering a precise chip to Keiran Thomas, who headed home Gloucester’s third. Ten minutes later, Elis Watts and Spence combined beautifully, with Watts’ looping cross met by Kane Simpson at the far post for the fourth goal.
Simpson sealed his brace and the fifth goal just before half-time, giving Gloucester a commanding lead going into the break.
The second half saw a more subdued pace, with both teams seemingly content as Gloucester wrapped up a vital victory. The result not only secured three crucial points but also extended Dorchester’s relegation worries.
Gloucester City manager Daf Williams praised his side’s resilience and attacking intent: “After Monday’s disappointment, the players showed immense ‘bouncebackability.’ We achieved several milestones tonight—cementing third place, earning a home semi-final, and matching our highest wins and goals in over 25 years. It was a fantastic team effort.”
Looking ahead, Williams emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum: “Our focus now is on winning at Yate and then at home against Walton to carry confidence into the play-offs.”
