Gloucester City Bounce Back with Victory and Three Impressive Debuts Against Tiverton Town

Gloucester City manager Daf Williams praised his team’s performance after a convincing 3-1 win over bottom-placed Tiverton Town on Saturday afternoon. Coming off a four-game winless streak, the victory provided a crucial boost for the Tigers.

The breakthrough came early with Marcus Day opening the scoring in the 22nd minute, converting a well-delivered cross into the far corner without a touch from defenders. City maintained control throughout the match, and their dominance was rewarded again in the 78th minute. Debutant Morgan Lewis made a smart run behind the defence before setting up Joe Hanks for a straightforward finish.

Just five minutes later, Kieran Phillips showcased excellent centre-forward play by linking up with another debutant, Rylie Siddall. Siddall pulled the ball back for Phillips to seal the victory with a polished finish.

Despite a solid 90-minute display, City conceded a late goal from a Hutchinson free kick, which Williams expressed disappointment over. “We aimed to be more resilient, compact, and organised without the ball," he said. “While we were generally happy with the overall performance, conceding late was frustrating as we had hoped for a clean sheet.”

Williams was especially pleased with the impact of the three new loan signings, Morgan Lewis, Rylie Siddall, and Jamal Mohammed, all making their debuts. “They were exactly what the squad needed—fresh energy and quality. I’m not bringing in players who don’t meet our standards, so their strong performances were encouraging for the whole group.”

Looking ahead, Gloucester City face a tough away fixture against league leaders Walton & Hersham on Tuesday. Sitting 10 points ahead of the Tigers, Walton & Hersham will test the momentum Gloucester hope to carry forward. Williams said, “We’re really looking forward to that challenge. Today’s win feels like a fresh start for our season.”
