George Skivington Praises Kirill Gotovtsev as Gloucester Rugby Offers Veteran New Contract

Gloucester Rugby director of rugby George Skivington has praised Kirill Gotovtsev, describing the experienced tighthead prop as ‘one of the fittest’ members of the squad. Gotovtsev recently signed a new contract to remain at Kingsholm for a fifth season, extending his stay with the West Country club.

The 37-year-old Russian international joined Gloucester from Krasny Yar ahead of the 2021/22 season and has since made 82 appearances for the Cherry and Whites, including 20 appearances this season alone. Despite being the oldest player in the squad, Gotovtsev’s performances have remained impressive, culminating in him being named Coaches’ Player of the Season last year.

Skivington said, “Kirill is one of the nicest blokes you’ll meet. He’s extremely humble but exceptionally dedicated to his craft and performing at the highest level. Being the oldest member of the squad, yet one of the fittest, shows how hard he works and how well he takes care of himself. There aren’t many 37-year-olds playing full 80-minute shifts in the Gallagher Premiership.”

Gotovtsev expressed his happiness in continuing his Gloucester journey, saying, “I have loved every minute of my time at Kingsholm and am really happy to be staying here. Gloucester has become my home, and I’m very grateful to the coaches, players, and fans for welcoming me and my family since I moved to England. I’m looking forward to finishing the season strong against Northampton Saints and am already excited for next season.”
