Joanna Page, beloved star of Gavin and Stacey, recently appeared on James Martin’s Saturday Morning to discuss her debut autobiography, Lush: My Story - From Swansea to Stacey and Everything in Between. The Welsh actress, who is also a mother of four, has opened her heart in this brutally honest memoir, sharing intimate moments from her life and career.
Married to fellow actor James Thornton—both of whom appeared in the 1999 adaptation of David Copperfield—Page did not shy away from including deeply personal stories. “I’m raw, I’m honest, I don’t pull any punches,” she said. “There were many times I thought, ‘I can’t write this, it’s too personal.’ But then I told myself, ‘Stuff it, I’m putting everything in.'”
When she first revealed the book to her family, the children were unaware of its existence. Page recounted her husband’s curious question: “Am I in it?” To which she replied, “Oh yes, just wait and see—I have a whole chapter dedicated to conceiving our last baby.”

Asked if Thornton was okay with such openness, Joanna joked, “It’s too late now, it’s all in print!” The children also eagerly asked if they were featured.
The moment Page gifted each of her children a copy, complete with personal dedications, was particularly special. Her husband read aloud the acknowledgments, where she expressed deep gratitude for his unwavering support throughout the writing process. “He looked after the children, gave me back massages and French martinis when I felt like I couldn’t carry on,” she revealed. “He was crying as he read it—it was really lovely.”
In a candid conversation with The Mirror, Page shared what has kept her and Thornton’s marriage strong over 25 years. “He makes me laugh and I love his personality. We share the same views and ideas about life. We love being together all the time,” she said. “Of course, we have our ups and downs; we bicker and sometimes go to bed not speaking. But we always wake up the next morning and never carry the argument forward.”
Joanna Page’s heartfelt memoir and her touching family stories celebrate a life lived openly and with love.
