Monty Don, beloved presenter of Gardeners' World, is stepping into new territory as he takes on hosting duties for the popular BBC panel show, Have I Got News For You, for the very first time.
The show, a staple of British television for 36 years, is celebrating its 71st series next month. Known for its sharp wit and mix of satire and absurdity, the programme features team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton alongside rotating celebrity guest hosts and panellists who humorously dissect the week’s news.
Monty will host episode two of the upcoming season, which airs on Friday, April 10 at 9 pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. This marks his debut appearance in this role, bringing a fresh face to the long-running show.

He’ll be joined by comedian Chris McCausland, returning for his eighth time as a guest panellist, and Helen Lewis, journalist and writer at The Atlantic, who will make her 13th appearance.
This exciting development comes shortly after Monty’s return to television with a new series of Gardeners' World. At 70 years old, Monty remains a familiar presence on the programme, where he has cast his gardening expertise for over two decades.
Filming at his Herefordshire home, Monty admits the process can feel like “going back to school.” He explains that while viewers might expect the cameras to simply follow him around the garden, the reality involves a large production team, weeks of preparation, and a demanding schedule involving filming and editing.
Talking about British gardening, Monty highlights the unique climate as a key factor. “We have the best weather,” he says, despite frequent complaints, “and it’s perfect for a wider range of gardening than any other country.” He also credits the British love for gardening as a close second reason for its distinctiveness.
Don’t miss Monty Don’s hosting debut on Have I Got News For You, airing Friday, April 10 at 9 pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
