Gardeners' World Star Monty Don Receives Fan Support After Severe Flooding at His Home

Monty Don, the much-loved gardening expert and presenter of BBC Gardeners’ World, recently opened up to his followers about a significant flood that has affected his home in Herefordshire. Through Instagram, Monty shared striking videos and photos documenting the extent of water damage on his property, which he shares with his wife Sarah and their two dogs, Patti and Ned.

The flooding has also touched the renowned Longmeadow garden, familiar to many viewers. In one post, Monty captured the floodwaters creeping into the garden with his dog Ned watching intently. He wrote: “A little wet in the garden this morning after yesterday’s storm dropped a month’s worth of rain in 24 hours.”

Monty highlighted the severity of the situation, noting widespread flooding in the region has caused extensive damage to homes and businesses, but luckily for him, it’s mainly the fields and his garden affected. He reflected on the “transformative beauty” of floods, adding that their location near a river and water meadows means they are “used to floods,” though the situation remains challenging.

Despite the adversity, Monty shared a lighter moment with footage of Ned playing joyfully in the floodwaters, undeterred as he chased his ball. This resilience mirrored Monty’s own spirit as he assured fans that the “small matter of a major flood” wouldn’t hinder his passion for gardening.

Supporters quickly moved to the comments section, sending words of comfort and solidarity. Remarks included, “Monty, I feel for you and your surrounding neighbours! Take care,” and, “Hope you and your dogs are well amid the flooding! So sad to see the roots standing in water.”

This marks not the first flood Monty has faced. He previously explained living on a floodplain is part of life for him and Sarah, though flooding has worsened in recent years. In past updates, Monty shared how extended rain spells lead to muddy paths and disrupted gardening work but also foster a deep connection with nature’s rhythms.

Monty and Sarah bought the property in October 1991 and spent about ten years restoring it, an endeavor Monty has described as a “privilege and joy.” Despite the recent challenges from the floodwaters, Monty’s dedication to his garden and optimism remain unwavering.
