Full List of Flood Risk Areas in Gloucestershire with Current Alerts

Following recent heavy rainfall, flood alerts have been updated and reissued for rivers across Gloucestershire. The Environment Agency has issued flood alerts, indicating that flooding is possible and residents should be prepared, for several key waterways including the River Severn and River Wye.

River levels are rising due to overnight rain, and forecasts predict continued heavy showers intermittently throughout the week, especially early Thursday morning (1am to 4am) and late Friday afternoon through midnight. Although the Met Office has not issued official weather warnings, conditions remain conducive to flooding.

The River Severn’s flood alert covers low-lying land and roads from Tewkesbury to Gloucester. Areas potentially impacted include Apperley, Maisemore, Hempsted, Minsterworth Ham, and Quedgeley, with the Severn Ham in Tewkesbury also likely to begin filling with water. The Environment Agency predicts peak river levels between 3.2m and 3.5m at Mythe Bridge and between 4.2m and 4.6m at Haw Bridge on Friday, December 5.

Tidal influences beginning Wednesday will affect river levels at Sandhurst and Gloucester, with expected heights of 2.3m to 2.5m on Tuesday and rising slightly on Wednesday.

The River Wye faces a similar flood risk, with expected peaks of 3.7m to 3.9m at Ross-on-Wye overnight and 4.4m to 4.7m at Lybrook on Wednesday. Low-lying lands and roads adjacent to the river may experience flooding.

In addition, the River Churn and its tributaries—including The Hilcot Brook, The Daglingworth Stream, and The Gumstool Brook—are under alert, with flooding possible around Cerney Wick. Although weather should remain mostly dry today and Wednesday, river levels are expected to stay elevated.

The River Evenlode, spanning from Moreton-in-Marsh to Cassington, and the River Glyme near Wootton and Woodstock also face potential flooding. The Environment Agency warns that low-lying land and roads may be affected, with high river levels persisting into the coming days.

Weather outlook for Gloucestershire includes a bright start today in the east but cloudier conditions with showers spreading westward. Showers may be blustery and could include hail and thunder, with temperatures reaching 11°C. Tonight will see clearing skies and possible grass frost with temperatures dropping to 2°C. Wednesday is expected to be drier and bright in many areas but turning cloudier and breezy later with rain arriving overnight. The remainder of the week looks unsettled, with intermittent rain and showers continuing through the weekend.

Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to remain vigilant, monitor updates, and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
