Freddie Flintoff has given fans a promising update on the future of his BBC series, Field of Dreams, following his recovery from a serious accident on Top Gear. After overcoming significant injuries, Freddie returned with renewed passion, assembling a cricket team of talented youngsters from his hometown to embark on a life-changing journey.
The show’s previous seasons captured their heartfelt expedition to India, where the players’ lives were transformed through the power of sport. Winning widespread acclaim and earning an RTS Award nomination, the programme continues to grow. Freddie recently wrapped filming for the third series, which will feature three new teams, expanding the show’s reach and impact.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Flintoff described the experience as “life-changing.” He reflected, “All the boys are doing well. But what I didn’t envisage is what I got from it. Going to India with these boys helped me so much… it’s getting bigger and bigger.”

The new series introduces two boys’ teams from Bootle and Newton Heath, alongside a girls’ team from Blackpool. Freddie shared, “We’ve just finished another one. I don’t know what’s going to happen after that. If you give kids a chance, they’re all right, aren’t they? Kids are good!”
Freddie’s accident in December 2022 was a serious setback when his car overturned during a Top Gear filming session at a Surrey test track. He sustained severe injuries, including broken ribs and facial trauma, and was later described as “lucky to be alive.” By March 2023, the BBC settled the matter with Flintoff, reportedly providing a compensation package of around £9 million.
During the second series of Field of Dreams on Tour, Freddie shared an emotional video from his recovery period, revealing the physical and mental challenges he faced. In the candid footage, he admitted, “Week and a half after my accident. Genuinely should not be here after what happened. This is going to be a long road back… I need help. I really am not the best at asking for it. I need to stop crying every two minutes.”
Earlier this year, Freddie announced plans for a new documentary on Disney+ that will explore how the crash has deeply affected his life. Reflecting on this 90-minute feature, he said, “Looking back on the highs and the lows, including the challenges I’ve faced since my accident, has been a real reminder of why my career in the sport has meant so much.”
Fans can watch Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams on BBC iPlayer and witness the inspiring journeys of these young cricketers as the series continues to shine a light on opportunity and resilience.
