In the early hours of Wednesday, July 22, four individuals were arrested on the A417 after an attempted burglary at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon. Wiltshire Police responded to reports of two vehicles entering the hospital grounds near the energy centre.
According to the police, the suspects—wearing balaclavas and carrying crowbars—exited the vehicles but fled before officers arrived. Collaborative efforts between Wiltshire Police, Gloucestershire Police, and specialist operations led to the vehicles being stopped on the A417 shortly afterward.
The four suspects, aged 22, 27, 29, and 31, from London and Gloucestershire, were taken into custody on suspicion of attempted burglary. Additionally, the 29-year-old was arrested for suspected drug driving, while the 27-year-old faces charges of drug driving and possession of an offensive weapon. All remain in police custody.

Chief Inspector Carly Nesbitt praised the coordinated response, stating, “This was excellent teamwork by all involved to make these four arrests and prevent a burglary taking place at the hospital. It is believed the suspects were targeting nitrous oxide canisters – enquiries are currently ongoing.”
