Cheltenham Town have secured the signing of experienced forward Andi Weimann just before the start of the new League Two campaign.
The 35-year-old Austria international boasts a wealth of experience, having been a regular in the Premier League with Aston Villa, as well as competing in the Championship for clubs including Watford, Derby County, Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Bromwich Albion, Bristol City and Blackburn Rovers.
Weimann, who is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, marks Cheltenham’s tenth signing of the summer and their eighth permanent addition to the squad.

He spent the latter half of last season on loan from Derby County at Rapid Vienna in Austria’s top division before becoming a free agent this summer. Notably, Weimann had been part of Rapid Vienna’s youth setup before moving to Aston Villa at sixteen.
Internationally, Weimann has represented Austria 26 times, netting goals against prominent teams such as France and Slovakia.
Cheltenham Town’s manager, Steve Cotterill, commented on the new arrival: “Andreas brings proven quality to the squad. He has played at a consistently high level throughout his career, both domestically and for his country.
“His skill set will complement our attacking options well, and I look forward to him becoming part of our group for the upcoming season.”
Expressing his enthusiasm, Weimann said: “I am delighted to have completed the move and can’t wait to get started. I’ve had some very positive discussions with the manager, I’m excited by what lies ahead, and I want to contribute as much as possible.”
Interestingly, Weimann previously scored against Cheltenham while playing for Bristol City in a 4-0 friendly victory at Ashton Gate in August 2020.
Cheltenham Town will begin their League Two campaign with a home fixture against Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.
